Virtues of
Surah Yaseen

Memorised and recited daily for its virtues by many, Surah Yaseen is one of the most famous portions of the Glorious Qur’ãn. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam states:

‘Everything has a heart, the heart of the Qur’ãn is Surah Yaseen.’ (Abu Dawood)

Imãm Ghazãli rahmatullahi alayh explaining the above Statement of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam states:

‘It is possible that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam has termed Surah Yaseen as the heart of the Qur’ãn because Allah Ta'ala has mentioned the separate stages of the Day of Judgement in a very eloquent manner in this Surah. The belief in the life after death is one of the fundamental beliefs of our religion and it is upon these fundamental beliefs that a person’s actions are based.

Fear and concern for the Hereafter is one of the main reasons why a person is able to perform Good deeds and refrain from disobeying Allah Ta'ala.

Just as the human body is dependent upon the well-being of the human heart, similarly, a person’s Imãn is dependent upon the integrity of these fundamental beliefs. (Ruh’ul Ma’ãni)

Abu Dhar Gif’ãri radhiallahu anhu states:

‘If Surah Yaseen is recited at the side of a dying person, the pangs of death are eased.’ (Ma’ãriful Qur’ãn)

Abdullah ibn Zubayr radhiallahu anhu states:

‘Whoever recites Surah Yaseen for a need of his, Allah Ta'ala will fulfil that need of his. (Ma’ãriful Qur’ãn)

Yahya ibn Katheer rahmatullahi alayh states:

‘Whosoever recites Surah Yaseen in the morning shall remain in peace and tranquillity until the evening; and if a person recites this surah in the evening he shall remain in peace and tranquillity until the morning. I have heard this from a person who has personally experienced these benefits of Surah Yaseen.’
